On hot summer days on the old plantations, the most daring kids would grab an inner-tube or almost anything that floats, trespass onto the plantation and "go fluming" in the many ditches and flumes throughout the State. "Fluming" was a wild, exciting, fun filled childhood adventure with the risk of being caught and paddled.

These images bring back nostalgic memories to many generations of all ethnic groups brought up in and around the plantation camps in Hawaii. The nostalgia of "Fluming the ditch" can again be experienced in safety and comfort on tours led by local guides. Residents and visitors alike can share in the magic of this unique historical adventure with experienced, native guides.

Fluming is a recreational, cultural and historical wilderness adventure for the whole family. Our highly trained professional guides lead

visitors on a unique ecotourism journey. The excursion travels over privately owned lands to the inaccessible and historic Kohala Sugar Plantation irrigation system. The irrigation system is a 22.5 mile series of open ditches, flumes and tunnels. The "Cruise" is a leisurely trip that meanders over a 3.5 mile scenic portion of the system, traveling through pristine rain forests, over ravines and waterfalls and through dark, mysterious tunnels.

Our local guides are well informed of the Hawaiian history, culture and legends of the Kohala region. It is the birth place of King Kamehameha and site of the original King Kamehameha statue. All of the guides are experienced kayakers, trained in first aid, CPR and water safety.
