Fronting a deep, half-mile beach on the sunny, dry Kohala Coast, this family-friendly resort is located next to two golf courses and across from a shopping center. This resort is located on a calm bay and includes a large free-form pool with 90-foot water slide; water-sports equipment rentals include pedal boats and kayaks. Each of the 545 air-conditioned guestrooms exhibits island style with rattan and light-wood furniture; patios or balconies offer garden, ocean, or volcano views.
Situated on 15 acres, the resort is compact enough for families to easily get around, with the pool complex centrally located from both wings of the hotel. Casual relaxation is the theme. A children's program frees adults for golf, tennis on the resort's six courts, and pampering at a full-service beauty salon/health spa.
From the pool complex that contains a water slide, kiddies' sand-bottom wading-pool, and two spas, it's a short, fascinating walk to the beach on Anaehoomalu Bay (A-Bay). Anaehoomalu means "protected mullet," a reference to the ancient fish ponds in which prized fish such as mullet would enter the ponds through screens, grow too large to return to the ocean, and be preserved for Hawaiian nobility. Paths wind through rough lava rock, which contains petroglyphs, and bridges span the ponds for beach access.
The expansive beach is located on a calm bay, shaded by coconut trees. A beach-activities center rents out snorkel sets, kayaks, boogie boards, and pedal boats and arranges glass-bottom-boat, scuba-diving, and snorkeling excursions.
The hotel comprises 545 rooms in two six-story wings. Between the lobby building and the pool complex is a sunning lawn and a magnificent grove of lauhala trees with their distinctive above-ground roots. Among the resort's facilities is the Hawaiian Rainforest Salon & Spa, which faces soothing koi ponds. Other amenities include a shopping arcade, business services, and a fitness center. High-speed Interent access is available.
The air-conditioned rooms include patios or balconies with garden, volcano, or ocean views. The decor is island-inspired, with rattan and light-wood furnishings. Amenities include high-speed television Internet access (via MSN TV), video game consoles, pay movies, refrigerators, and bathrobes.
Hawaii Calls Restaurant - Serving breakfast and dinner and providing panoramic ocean views, this airy restaurant offers Pacific/Asian cuisine and nightly entertainment.
